The guts to share something half-baked
Ok, now I like Paul McCartney on a whole new level - check out this article. https://seths.blog/2022/05/half-baked/
It’s common to be held back by our fears of not being perfect, or assumptions that others will judge us as less competent or credible. Sooo common. Just a wee bit too familiar.
Just imagine what would happen if we moved forward instead of holding back, acted instead of avoided? What would we (the world!) become? There might be more creative genius, more beautiful music, more mended relationships, more goals reached, more intractable problems solved..
Why, then, do we hold ourselves back when the prize is so big?
These fears and assumptions, and others like them, act as if they are 100% true, and they are 100% likely to lead to a dire outcome. We are afraid we will lose what we hold most dear to us. And they are often below the surface - as true and certain as the nose on our face, but often something we haven’t yet put into words.
We have an #immunitytochange. Our attempts to self-protect are in overdrive, becoming self-sabotage. What actually happens is that we end up risking the very thing we value most.
So, how can we become unstuck?
When we DO put those fears and assumptions holding us back into words it can be an incredible revelation - we make the subscious conscious. The thing we are ‘subject to’ becomes object. Creating an ITC map can help with that. Such an elegant way to see things clearly.
When we SEE it we finally have the choice to do something with what we see. And what is that something? Just one small low risk experiment, and then perhaps just another one…maybe even leading to a lifetime of experiments…learning to put our scientist hat onto test the ‘absolute validity’ of these assumptions that are in the driver's seat of our frustrating counterproductive behaviours.
And when you find a crack in that ‘truth’ you held, that can create a ripple that unlocks you in the ways that are most important, and shows you how to grow and change in self-sustaining ways.
That’s the REAL prize in my opinion - people and teams who know how to grow in deep, meaningful ways long beyond a coaching engagement.
